Compassionate Friends' Garden

Beautiful Perth volunteers, with support from Perth & Kinross Council, have been working in partnership with Compassionate Friends, a charitable organisation of bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents, to create a contemplative memorial garden within the Bellwood area of Riverside Park. In 2017 we planted a rowan tree together and the Compassionate Friends group installed a small marker stone at its foot. In 2018 the group again held its annual gathering in Perth and 40 of its members joined us in the garden for the unveiling of a new bench and a carved commemorative stone at the entrance to the garden. In 2022 we commissioned a sculpture by Scottish blacksmith Kevin Paxton of a 'Robin on a Garden Fork', which we unveiled during the Compassionate Friends group's first visit since 2020. The sculpture has been installed on the high banking overlooking the burn that runs through the garden.

Our volunteers continue to maintain the garden; our focus being on pollinator friendly and native plants which create beautiful, natural displays. Members of the Compassionate Friends group often visit the garden to enjoy quiet contemplation, either as part of a group visit or as individuals.
