Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions!

Perth is the Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions 2019! We are so proud that the dedication and hard work of all our volunteers and partners has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) judges, who visited our Fair City at the end of July to see our displays and projects, and meet some of the many people who help us make Perth such a beautiful place to live, work and visit. At the Britain in Bloom Awards ceremony in London on Friday 25 October, we picked up a Gold Medal and the judges' discretionary Award for Parks and Green Spaces for Riverside Park. Then, in what the judges described as one of the most competitive Championship categories in recent years, our competitors Durham, Castlecaulfield, Kingsbridge and St Helier all won Gold medals too. After a nerve-wracking wait, the announcement came - Perth had come out top, and was crowned 2019 Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions, making our Fair City the best 'blooming' community in the whole of the UK!   You can read about our experience of entering (and winning!) in a Blog we did for Keep Scotland Beautiful's website

RHS Judges Roger Burnett and Jon Wheatley commended Perth's entry, which was led by our Beautiful Perth volunteers working closely with Perth & Kinross Council's Community Greenspace team. They said we ticked every box across the Horticulture, Environment and Community elements of the judging criteria, demonstrating "a fantastic range of high-quality horticulture, environmental initiatives and community engagement on a city-wide scale".

2019 Videos, Portfolio & photos

Photos from the 2019 Britain in Bloom Awards ceremony in London on 25 October are on our Flickr site. When the judges arrived on 25 July we showed them a nine-minute video about how our charity got started, and how partnerships with people and groups across Perth are the key to our success; you can view that video here. We also made a short video with the highlights of the judges' tour of Perth - view it here. We have produced a special souvenir edition of the Portfolio we submitted to the judges, to celebrate our success in becoming the Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions. You can view it here (to view the document in larger size, click the Fullscreen icon on the right under the doc). The Portfolio showcases the wide range of work undertaken by our volunteers, partners and supporters to make Perth a beautiful place to live, work and visit. Thank you to the brilliant Ian Potter of LightPress Media and Design for making the videos and designing the Portfolio for us.

The awards are based on the Royal Horticultural Society’s system of giving bronze, silver, silver gilt and gold awards to reflect different levels of achievement, and certificates are awarded to all successful entrants. The winner of each category also receives a trophy, and there two special Awards – the Endeavour trophy for the entry judged to have made the greatest community impact, and the Rosebowl for best overall garden. Beautiful Perth judges also help assess the Gannochy Trust 2017 Gannochy Garden Awards.
