More National Awards for Riverside Park!

Two public gardens in the heart of Perth have achieved success in the 2022 Beautiful Scotland Awards. The Heather Garden and the Compassionate Friends Garden, both in Riverside Park, have been awarded the top rating of ‘Outstanding’ in this year’s It’s Your Neighbourhood competition.

Beautiful Scotland judge, Colin Ainsworth, visited the park to present certificates to the hard-working volunteers from local charity Beautiful Perth, who look after the gardens. Commenting on how the volunteers have enhanced the visitor experience in the park, Colin said  "The close links between the Beautiful Perth volunteers and the Compassionate Friends group has resulted in a tranquil and very pleasant place for quiet reflection. In the Heather Garden, clever planting shows off these undervalued plants, and the volunteers are working to become holders of the National Collection of the heather erica carnea, no small feat in itself.”

Beautiful Perth Chairman John Summers said: “These awards are a real boost for our volunteers. We achieved the highest horticultural award in the UK back in 2019 when our City was named the RHS Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions. In the same year Riverside Park won the top award in the Parks and Green Spaces category for the second year running, a unique achievement for our amazing volunteers. Sadly, the pandemic then intervened and all activities had to cease in 2020, returning only on a limited basis while restrictions remained in place in 2021. We were delighted to be able to get back to work in 2022 and winning these certificates from Beautiful Scotland is the icing on the cake!”
