Kinnoull Burial Ground

When visiting the Riverside Park, spend some time in the peace and quiet of Kinnoull Old Burial Ground which is maintained by a group of wonderful volunteers.

Here you can view the remains of early church buildings, where Queen Margaret Tudor, grandmother both of Mary Queen of Scots and of her second husband, Henry Darnley, was married.

The North Aisle, or Kinnoull Aisle, houses a remarkable memorial to Thomas Hay, who served as the Lord Chancellor of Scotland and became the first Earl of Kinnoull. Historic Environment Scotland provide more detail on this building.

The cemetery has a rich collection of equally interesting early gravestones to local tradesmen and professionals as well as memorials to the pre-Raphaelite artist, Sir John Everett Millais, his wife Euphemia Gray and their descendants.

New volunteers are always welcome, so come over for a chat. Please note the cemetery is only open during the day until around 4pm.
