Winter partnerships

Crocus planting, Edinburgh Rd

The days may be shorter and the weather colder, but  our volunteers have been keeping busy over the autumn and winter months, working with a range of partners on projects across Perth. Here's a selection of our recent activities.

Crocus planting: we are taking part in the Rotary Club of Great Britain's 2016 'Plant your Own Crocus' initiative, along with other 'Bloom' groups across Perth & Kinross. In November we planted an amazing 15,000 crocuses in Perth! Our partners in the Perth Station Gardening Club put 1000 into their Biodiversity Garden, and the Take a Pride in North Muirton group have planted 500 in raised beds near the local shops. Our own Beautiful Perth volunteers were extremely grateful for the help given by Perth & Kinross Council's Community Service squad, because we faced the daunting task of planting 13,500 crocuses at the junction of Edinburgh Road and Gleneagles Road. The  CS squad lifted and replaced the turf for us, making the spreading of the corms much easier than it would otherwise have been. We're really looking forward to seeing the results in the Spring!

Bridgend: in December, had a very productive action day sprucing up the Bridgend area. Our friends from Turning Point Scotland's Shore Road project came along to help us tidy up our raised beds along the Dundee Road, and to pick up leaves and litter at the Back Wynd car park. All that hard work has made a big difference and we'll all be back in the New Year to bring some Spring colour to the area.   crocusplantingedinburghrd

Kinnoull PS: Also in December, our volunteers joined pupils from Kinnoull Primary School to do an end-of-year clear out of the tubs and beds in the school's fantastic new front garden.  We also planted tulips and dafffodils which will brighten up the garden in the Spring.kinnoullschooldec16

Dunkeld Road: our lovely sponsors from the Curves Gym in St Catherine's Retail Park joined us at the end of October, to tidy and replant their tubs and beds with hardy plants for the winter. To be in harmony with the Curves' logo colour scheme, we chose a variety of purple plants - and they look fantastic! curvesoct16
