Britain in Bloom Gold!

Floral display Barrack Street

We are absolutely delighted to have won Gold at the Royal Horticultural Society's 2016 Britain in Bloom Awards! Our Chairman John Summers, Vice Chair Jenny Wiliams and Secretary Elspeth Bruce attended the awards ceremony last night (14 October) and accepted the award on behalf of all our volunteers. 'Bloom' groups from all over the UK attended, and we were proud to represent Scotland in the 'large town' category.* As at the RHS's Chelsea Flower Show, the judging criteria are very strict and Gold awards are much coveted, so this success is a huge tribute to the hard work of our dedicated volunteers.

As John Summers says: "We are absolutely over the moon to have won this prestigious award! Our local volunteers turn out in all weathers to plant, to weed, to pick up litter and do whatever is needed to keep the Fair City beautiful. We have fantastic sponsors and partners, without whom we could not be so successful and particular credit must go to Perth & Kinross Council’s Community Greenspace Team whose support is invaluable.

"Being a Britain in Bloom finalist means a lot of hard work, but it has made a huge difference to the City. It’s been a catalyst for action by our volunteers and partners, spurring us all on to make Perth look its best for the judges - and of course that brings benefits for residents and visitors alike. I want to thank everyone who has helped make it happen. We will be carrying on the good work and look forward to many more years of making Perth such a beautiful place to live, work and visit.”

The Scottish contingent as a whole is returing home today laden with Britain in Bloom awards - our congratulations go to our sister groups from Aberdeen (City category), Haddington (Town category), Dufftown (Large Village) and Bute (coastal community) who also enjoyed great success at the Awards. Together we did Scotland proud!

*The categories are set by the RHS according to the size of the electoral role, so although we are immensely proud to be a City, we fall into the large town category in this instance.
