Beautiful Perth Chairman John Summers OBE has announced the results of the 2015 Beautiful Perth Awards. The award categories range from residential front gardens to window boxes, local environmental projects, schools and business premises. This year, Beautiful Perth judges John Summers and Sylvia Stuart also helped assess the Gannochy Trust’s 2015 Gannochy Garden Awards, whuch were also presented at the Awards ceremony. A gallery of photgraphs of the Award presentations can be found here. Copies are available to purchase from our official photographers PKPerspective.co.uk

The awards are based on the Royal Horticultural Society’s system of giving bronze, silver, silver gilt and gold awards to reflect different levels of achievement, and certificates are awarded to all successful entrants. The winner of each category also receives a trophy, and there two special Awards – the Endeavour trophy for the entry judged to have made the greatest community impact, and the Rosebowl for best overall garden. The 2015 Awards were presented by Provost Liz Grant of Perth & Kinross Council. Mr and Mrs D Scott

Speaking at the Awards ceremony, John Summers congratulated all the entrants for their contribution to Perth’s local environment:

“The weather has not been kind to gardeners this summer – July was one of the wettest on record! Yet we judges had the pleasure and privilege of touring our Fair City to visit so many lovely gardens and community projects, all of which have brightened up their neighbourhoods. That’s the sort of dedication that makes me very proud to be involved with the whole Beautiful Perth community, from our amazingly hard-working volunteers to each and every one of the entrants to our 2015 competition.

“The judges from Beautiful Scotland visited Perth the other week and made special mention of the outstanding community involvement they saw in Perth. I know they were impressed. Those national Awards will be announced in a couple of weeks at Perth Concert Hall – fingers crossed that we do well there, and if we do, it will be in no small measure due to the work of the people gathered here tonight.”
